The Weekend Golf Report

RORY WINS – The gap void canyon between Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods grew further apart this week as Rory racked up yet another dominating win at the Dubai Desert Classic.  Rory’s -22 matched the tournament record for lowest score at the venue where he picked up his first professional win.  His final round 70 was looked at calm as a horse with a 20 length lead coming down the home stretch.

TIGER LOOSES – Meanwhile at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Tiger continued to have the chipping yips around the greens resorting to chipping using a fairway wood on some holes.  His full shot game was the typical rusty Tiger at this time of year but his short game was just not present.  His +13 was good for dead last at the event and he shot his worst round of his career with a second round 82.

WHO IS KOEPKA – Brooks Koepka stepped up to the 72nd hole with water left and launched a 331 yard drive down the dead center of the fairway to ultimately set up a tap in victory.  The 24 year old adds his name to the onslaught of young golfers staking their claim on the modern game.  The leader board down the stretch was full of under 25’s vying for their chance to take the best show on turf.

REED CHEATS – More controversy for Patrick Reed this week, but this time in the form of a tell all book.  Author Shane Ryan is making claims that Reed cheated in an event and stole from fellow players lockers.  This is likely a publicity stunt for the new book and the management group for Reed quickly issued a statement to try to get ahead of the story.  Seriously who cares?

LYDIA KO IS #1 – Lydia Ko became the youngest player to become #1 at the age of 17.  The South Korean Ko finished in a tie for 2nd on the weekend to secure the premier ranking.  She has 5 LPGA victories and 1 European Tour victory since turning pro in October 2013.
